Unburden (DW ability)Hometown
John is in general pretty flexible. Other than his slight phobia of girls, he will try to strike up conversations when the opportunity is right. He is tolerant of most personalities, however, people who are rude to others displease him. John is not usually very active, and would much prefer to read a good book, or play some video-games over playing sports, or exercising in general. The one exception to this is training his fighting skills with friends. He prefers to only spar with friends, because it makes him feel more secure, and hopefully get some constructive criticism on his techniques. John will often think before he acts, it can often be observed when appears to be not paying attention, or zoned out. John also may worry on occasion. He has had panic attacks in the past, but he hasn't had any in a long time. John dislikes sadness, it depresses him to see that someone who could be perfectly happy, is wasting their time being upset. You will usually see him be the first to try and comfort people in these situations. John has no trouble conversing with females younger than him- or those older. His problem is with those that could be considered as his peers, or just with those his age.
John was born in Goldenrod city, a pretty popular tourist destination in Johto. He had a normal start to life there, nothing very special came his way for the most part. It probably would have stayed that way, If his father, Manus, hadn't been drafted into the military. Since John didn't have the guidance of a male peer he needed, she decided to send him to an all boys boarding school. He wasn't very good at things a father would teach his son, namely basic battling, and of course, sports. He never really found sports interesting anyways, so this didn't phase him very much. He was very invested in the subjects of history and science, however. He has fond memories of staying up late at night, reading about things such as the creation of Hoenn. His love of these subjects, however, made others in his school refer to him as a, "nerd" of sorts. Thus, his social interaction was limited. They started battle classes much later than normal, and this is when John found out he sucked at battling. Like, a lot. He had the bruises to prove it. His mother over-reacted, as mothers tend to, and pulled him out of school. About a week later, she told him that she got a job in the Kalos region, and that they were shipping out.
The new surroundings of Shalour were much different than what he was used to, having spent all of his life in a bustling city. He felt like he didn't need to keep his guard as high, thus he loosened up, and became an in general more relaxed person. The new surroundings of Shalour were much different than what he was used to, having spent all of his life in a bustling city. Shortly after unpacking, mother signed him up with a personal fighting tutor, so he could catch up with his far more advanced class-mates. He adored that woman, In a teacher student way, of course! She also helped John with his... "Girl problem." She taught him things that his father would have. New teacher, new school, new start. When John was almost done with middle school, he evolved into a Grovyle. Sadly, he still didn't get many friends, but he did get well-known in his community for knowing how to defuse emotional situations. Someone crying their head off, a dude about to punch another's face in, you name it, he could solve it. Luckily, there was not an abundance of bullies in Shalour, so it made John's efforts that much easier.
Even after all of that, he still struggled with a few things. I.E. making friends, and just being able to form a comprehensive sentence around girls. The first time he interacted with a girl his age, was when he met his teacher's sister. He also didn't make much of an effort to improve his skills till later, when his teacher took notice, and decided to help him out. He is still not proud of his abilities to communicate, however, he finds it much easier to communicate with adults. He and his mother both knew he needed a way to fix his flaws, and still be able to continue his studies. So after John finished high school, his mother showed him something about Armonia Institute. Of course, john detested the idea of being shipped out at first, but he slowly realized that the last time he got a fresh start, it went very well for him. So he decided that Armonia was the place for him.
